For one weekend in early November, a whimsical park in downtown Wilson will be filled with arts, music, and food as the community comes together for the 15th Annual North Carolina Whirligig Festival !
When and Where
The Whirligig Festival will be held at the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park on November 2 and 3. It begins at 10 a.m. that Saturday and at noon on Sunday. The event wraps up at 5 p.m. on both days. Whirligig Park is located at 301 Goldsboro Street South, Wilson, North Carolina 27893.
The Whirligig Festival
The festival will host more than 200 vendors under the towering creations of artist Vollis Simpson. As you explore the various tents and booths, you’ll find a wide range of food, nonprofit causes, and artists across eclectic mediums. Among the featured artists, Dan Nelson will return to create three new paintings on the spot. Nelson always captivates the crowd with his live painting, and you can watch a beautiful scene come together as he works. He may even invite some guests to help out.
Live Entertainment
There will be several stages set up around the park to provide live music throughout the weekend, and you may hear jazz, rock, or rhythm and blues as you explore. Regional Ninja Warrior competitors will make their way through the spectacular Whirligig Warrior course, and you can meet them after their run.
Fun for All Ages
The Whirli-Kidz Zone will captivate the imaginations of younger guests with live music, challenges, a bounce house, and the chance to pick up an instrument and jam on stage. At the STEM-focused Inspiration Station, kids can learn about exciting tech to pique an early interest in science, technology, engineering, and math.
The Whirli-Run
This year introduces a new race to the festival, and you can participate in 5k or 10k run on Saturday at 8 a.m. Organized by the Wilson Endurance Club, the race will lead runners through downtown Wilson in the brisk morning air. Proceeds from the race will benefit Diversified Opportunities, Inc. and their WhirliDogs culinary training efforts.
