You don’t have to head to New York City to see a top-rated theater. Instead, you can drive to the Paramount Theatre in Goldsboro for your performance fix. The theater opened its doors in 1882 and underwent a reconstruction in 2005. Now, it’s the place to go to see plays, dance performances, and more. First, check out what’s on the horizon at the Paramount Theatre and then make plans to attend a performance.
Take a Deep Dive Into History With “Red Tails”
Do you like learning about history? If so, you’ll want to catch the theater’s screening of the film “Red Tails.” It’ll be on Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. and tells the story of the famous Tuskegee Airmen. Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Terrance Howard provide moving performances that you won’t want to miss, and the supporting cast is fantastic as well. Moreover, you don’t need to worry about buying a ticket to see the film. The Paramount Theatre is showing it for free as part of the NC Freedom Fest Military Appreciation Festival and Freedom Week, so that’s another reason to attend.
Celebrate National Heroes With “Patriot”
You can explore a different type of history with “Patriot.” Part of the theater’s Performing Arts Series, “Patriot” honors the men and women who have served in the military, along with their families. The performers use dance to tell stories and show their appreciation for the sacrifices of active-duty military members and veterans, and it’s incredibly moving. The dancers will hit the stage on Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m., and tickets range from $13.50-$20.
Watch the Funniest Man in America Perform
You might be surprised to learn that the Paramount Theatre also hosts comedy shows. James Gregory is the next comedian on the list. You can catch the performance on Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $40-$50. Gregory’s billed as the “funniest man in America,” and that’s not hyperbole. With his knack for turning stories into punchlines, he is hilarious. If you love Southern-style comedy, mark this performance on your calendar.

Have a Scare During Movie Night
The Paramount Theatre is known for hosting themed movie events throughout the year, and Halloween is one of the best. This year, it’s hosting two scary movies on Oct. 30. First, you can take your little ones to see “Hocus Pocus” at 4 p.m. Wait to see what happens when a kid awakens a trio of witches. With its PG rating, it has some mild scares, but it’s not over the top so that mature kids will enjoy it.
Now, if you want to jump out of your seat, get tickets for “The Grudge” at 7 p.m. This Sarah Michelle Gellar classic is a remake of a Japanese horror film. It might have come out in 2004, but it holds up today, making it a great way to get into the Halloween spirit.
These films cost $6 each. You might want to get your tickets early. The themed movie nights are popular so that tickets can go fast.
You are sure to have a blast at any of these performances. Grab tickets today so you’ll be ready when the curtains go up.
