About the Museum
According to the Wayne County Museum’s website, its mission is to “discover, preserve, document, display, and disseminate historical knowledge and artifacts of Wayne County.” And they really pull it off!
In the Wayne County History Gallery, you’ll find all kinds of things to help you understand the area’s history. There’s a wall of fame with some of the area’s most famous citizens over the years and a set of timeline paintings.
The Medical Gallery has hand-drawn sketches of the hospitals that have been in the area over the years, historical medical books, and instruments and medicine bottles from decades past.
You can also learn a lot in the Military Gallery. You can see uniforms and weaponry artifacts from the major conflicts Wayne County citizens have fought in. The gallery focuses on eras like the Civil War, WWI, WWII, and the Vietnam War.

When and Where
You can find the Wayne County History Gallery at 116 N. William Street, Goldsboro, NC. It’s usually open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. It also hosts some special events and field trips, so get in touch with the staff if you want to know more.
You’ll want to wait until February 2 to make your next visit, though. The museum will be re-opening after a short closure with a new exhibit called “Hearts & Hands: A History of Local African American Community Service.” You’ll definitely want to see this new part of the museum.
